Star Power: Providence Star Quilt Block & Providence Star Variation Quilt Block

Providence Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Providence Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 5/8″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These squares are paired with the White/Blue Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Green 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red 3 5/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 1/4″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired with the Green 2 1/4″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Red 2 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2 ) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These squares are paired with the White/Green Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 5/8″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired with the Green 2 1/4″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Red
    2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. They’re also paired with the Red 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Red 3 1/4″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 2 7/8″ squares.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. In addition they’re paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Green
    2 7/8″ squares in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Green 3 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square.)

Rolling Squares Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. Then they’re paired with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares in the corners of this quilt block. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also flanked on THREE (3) other sides by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink/White Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank THREE (3) sides of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares in the corners of this quilt block. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. Then they’re paired with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
