Arctic Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Arctic Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. When THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with ONE (1) of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with THREE (3) of the Teal/White Half-Square Triangles, they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. When THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with ONE (1) of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with THREE (3) of the Teal/White Half-Square Triangles, they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Aqua 5 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. Cobra Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gold: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Rust 2 1/2″ squares. ONE (1) of these squares is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) of these squares is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. When all sewn together they’ll create a “frame” around the Cobras in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese.)
  • Rust: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Gold 2 1/2″ squares. ONE (1) of these squares is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. Another ONE (1) of these squares is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. When all sewn together they’ll create a “frame” around the Cobras in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese.)
  • Burnt Sienna: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Burnt Sienna
    2 5/8″ x 4″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Burnt Sienna: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Burnt Sienna 2 5/8″ x 4″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners in the center of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Gold 4 5/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Rust 4 5/8″ square which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Burnt Sienna 2 5/8″ by 4″ rectangles in the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Sky Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. Only THREE (3) of these triangles are needed for this quilt block. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Sky Blue 5 1/4″ square. They’re also paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 5 1/4″ square. When all sewn together they’ll create THREE (3) Quarter-Square Triangles.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Sky Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Sky Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Teal 5 1/4″ square. They’re also paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 5 1/4″ square. When all sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle.)
  • Sky Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle.)
  • Sky Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Sky Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the Sky Blue/Lt. Blue Quarter-Square Triangle. It’s also paired with the Lt. Blue/Sky Blue/Teal Quarter Square Triangle.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (3) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Sky Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Lt Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Sky Blue 3 5/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Teal 5 1/4″ square. They’re also paired with the results of the Sky Blue 5 1/4″ square. When all sewn together they’ll create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the Sky Blue/Lt. Blue Half-Square Triangles. It’s also paired with ONE (1) of the Teal/Sky Blue/Lt. Blue Quarter-Square Triangles.)
