Rolling Squares Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. Then they’re paired with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares in the corners of this quilt block. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also flanked on THREE (3) other sides by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink/White Flying Geese.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank THREE (3) sides of the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares in the corners of this quilt block. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. Then they’re paired with the Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Rolling Squares Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
