Rhode Island Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Magenta: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Magenta: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Magenta: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Magenta 5 1/4″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White

(These triangles will flank the results of the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese. When all sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Red/White Half-Square Triangles, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches & they’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Red 2″ squares. It’s also paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red/White Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)’
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ square. They’re also paired with the Blue 2″ squares. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Red 2″ squares. It’s also paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)’
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/2″ square. They’re also paired with the Red 2″ squares. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Offset Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
