Texas Fireside Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Red: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese. When all sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Red/White Half-Square Triangles, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches & they’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
