Quilt Dash is “Sailing Away” this Month!

Ah, summers! Picnics, family, cookouts. Getting together at the water’s edge to camp out & run your sailboats. The paper kind or the real ones! 🙂 That’s what summers are all about!




For the July Quilt Dash, the free pattern that’s available to members who complete the Quilt Dash, this is what the pattern looks like:

"Sailing Away Quilt Pattern" free to Quilt Dash members who complete the July 2019 Quilt Dash.Sailing Away Quilt

A pieced quilt pattern
Size 54 3/4” W x 78 1/4” H

Sailing Away makes a cute quilt for a boy or for an adult sailor. Constructed with pieced sailboat blocks, this pattern is easy to adjust to make it larger or smaller. You can also use your scraps to make it scrappy looking.

10 1/2″ square unfinished.

Quilted Kitchen: Arrowhead Quilt Block & Arrowhead Chips Recipe

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 2 3/4″ squares to create a Four-Patch, which will also be the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Maroon: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ strips. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square to create TWO (2) of the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank ONE (1) end of the Maroon
    2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ strips as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be flanked by the Maroon 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ strips to create TWO (2) of the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Maroon 2 3/4″ squares to create a Four-Patch, which will also be the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ strips. (These will flank the results of the Maroon 7 1/4″ square to create TWO (2) of the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank ONE (1) end of the Maroon
    2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ strips as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.
