Friday Funday! The Allatoona Quilt Guild made my “Midnight Stargazer” BOM Quilt!

The Allatoona Quilt Guild from Acworth GA made my 2020 “Midnight Stargazer” BOM Quilt this past year!

The guild started 39-years-ago! About 12 women formed it & meetings were held in a quilt store. Now they have grown to about 100 members!

They used to hold monthly meetings, where they hand out the instructions, for the BOM quilt they are making. However due to Covid-19 they are not able to meet, so every month they were sent the instructions & each of the participating guild members made their “Midnight Stargazer” quilt blocks.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ square & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Red 2 3/8″ squares.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 3 3/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. They’re also paired on ONE (1) other side with the Red 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut THIRTY-TWO (32) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with all of the White rectangles, which will create THIRTY-TWO (32) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Yellow 3 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
