Stars & Triangles Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Stars & Triangles Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Lilac
    2 1/4″ squares. They’re also flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lilac 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lilac 3 1/4″ squares. & they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lilac 3 1/4″ squares. & they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Red 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Lilac 2 1/2″ squares in the corners as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Red 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lilac
    1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Purple 3 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll be flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles & they’ll also be flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Then they’ll be flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles & they’ll also be flanked by the Lilac 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles.   • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Teal 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Teal 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Teal 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Teal 1 1/4″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Teal
    2 1/4″ squares. They’re also flanked by the Teal 1 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ rectangles & by the Teal 1 1/4″ x
    2 5/8″ rectangles. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Half-Square Triangles in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Teal

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be paired with the Square in a Square in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/4″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 1 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners. They’ll also be paired with the FOUR (4) prior rectangles.)
