Patchwork Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the White
2 1/2″ squares in the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the Purple/White Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.) - Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create the center of this quilt block. Then they’re flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.

The best way to sew this quilt block together is on the diagonal. Sew all of the Flying Geese & Square in a Square elements together first. Then sew either ONE of the center strips together (from one end to another). Next sew the TWO (2) remaining corners together. Finally sew the TWO (2) remaining corners to the center strip!

- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square.
