Countdown to Christmas 12/23/2021: Turtle Dove Quilt Block

Turtle Dove Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Turtle Dove Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT(8) 2 1/2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Purple & White Half-Square Triangles to create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dk. Purple 5  1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares & they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Pink 3 7/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. This is the center of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Purple
    2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. It’s also the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will flank the results of the Blue 12 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Dk. Green 4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Half-Square Triangle. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. It’s also the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 12 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (This is flanked by the results of the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares. It’s also the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

  • Gold: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. These are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
