French Hens Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares & they’ll help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Pink 3 7/8″ squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. This is the center of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Purple
2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for the center of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “French Hens Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
