On Cloud Nine: Betty’s Delight Quilt Block

Betty's Delight Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Betty’s Delight Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Four-Patch sections. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. They’ll create a “frame” around the White 4 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Four-Patch sections. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. They’ll create a “frame” around the White 4 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Four-Patch sections. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s “framed” by the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & it’s also “framed” by the Teal 2 1/2″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired with TWO (2) Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. These Snowball Corners are also the lower left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together. ONE (1) of these squares is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. These Snowball Corners are also the lower left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the White 3 1/2″ squares in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired on the remaining TWO (2) sides with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 2 5/8″ x 9″ rectangles, where they’ll form a “frame” around the White 4 3/4″ square, when they’re sewn with the center of this quilt block.)
