Countdown to Christmas 12/3/2019: Christmas Star #2 Quilt Block

Christmas Star #2 Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Christmas Star #2 Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Dark Gray 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Light Gray
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The other FOUR (4) will be flanked, on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue
    2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Gray 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides, the Dark Gray 1 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ ” squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the Dark Green 2″ squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Green 4 1/4″ square, which will create a set of FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.
  • Dark Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be flanked on one side by the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares & on the other side by the results of the Dark Green 2 3/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2″ squares on ONE (1) side & the Dark Green 2″ squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/2″ square, which will create a set of FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares, which will create a set of Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on THREE (3) sides, by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with each other, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked by the results of the Blue
    3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

The Maidstone Quilter’s Have Completed their Quilts & They’re Beautiful!

Just in case you don’t remember who the “Maidstone Quilting Squares” are, take a look at this blog post & then jump over to my sister-site to see their progress throughout early 2019.

Here’s the quilt that they made:

2006 Block of the Month quilt. An original sampler designed by TK Harrison consisting of 16-patch square’s made with a touch of cinnamon with chocolate, figs & roses – sure to be a delectable delight!
