The Holmes Valley Quilters was founded by Kathy Anderson and Angie Bush. We met for the first time January 17, 2008, where 26 people gathered in the home of Kathy Anderson. We have members from Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Walton and Bay counties in Florida.

For the past several years, we have been making and donating quilts and totes to our local Guardian ad Litem program. Most of the fabric and materials needed for these projects are either donated by members themselves or by local sewing groups and/or businesses. Then our members give their personal time and love, to construct beautiful quilts and totes to be donated to local children in need. Our charity this year, will be making quilts and totes for Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. These quilts will be kept in officer’s vehicles and given to victim’s of trauma (i.e. car accidents, house fires, domestic violence…etc.).

Holland Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
Green: Cut FOUR (4) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These squares are flanked by the results of the Green
5 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares.)

The Quilting Ministry of Manahawkin Baptist Church, New Jersey call themselves the Sewing Sisters. Our town is very close to the beach.

We have been meeting for many years off and on and some of our women are involved in a summer sewing camp for the girls at church eight and older.

In 2011 I was asked by a mom to start a sewing group for young girls. Sewing seems to have skipped a generation. After much prayer and trepidation, a one week summer camp for girls ages eight to 16 was formed. Many of my sewing friends said “Yes” and volunteered as leaders. Over the past 11 years we have made quilts using charm squares, a rag quilt and a recently a race quilt. Along with many cool items the girls like to wear, use or give away.

In 2018 I invited the ladies in our church to join me in a mystery quilt class. About 11 ladies responded.

We Sewing Sisters enjoy sewing charity quilts, nursing home bags, pillowcases for cancer patients, craft items to sell to raise money for missions at our church and other fun projects.

Our ladies have a strong bond of love. We share devotions and pray with and for each other as life throws troubles our way. God is faithful in all our circumstances. He has truly blessed our ministry.
