Star Power: Meadow Star Quilt Block & Meadow Star Variation Quilt Block

Meadow Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Meadow Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patches. Once they’re sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Green/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with the White/Green Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY-FOUR (24) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. Once they’re sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Meadow Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patches. Once they’re sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Purple/White Flying Geese. They’re also paired with the White/Purple Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY-FOUR (24) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patches. Once they’re sewn together they’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ square. (2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Purple 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Purple
    2 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) square is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares. It’s also paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. All sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles. These help to create a “frame” around the center Nine-Patch of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’re then paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the Green 2 7/8″ square. All sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. All sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles. These help to create a “frame” around the center Nine-Patch of this quilt block.)
