On Cloud Nine: Chimney Quilt Block

Chimney Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Chimney Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Maroon 3 3/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. When sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These paired with the Gray 4 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners.
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Grandma’s Prize Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the White 2″ squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (TWO  (2) of these are the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares. The they’re paired with the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares.)

My Facebook group was actually started from another page. There was a Lorraine fabric page which was selling the remaining stock of boundless fabric from Bluprint/Craftsy. While following that page I found there were many women and a few men who were feeling isolated due to Covid. I started my Facebook group as a way to try to build a community so they could once again belong to something and not feel lonely. We have about 300 members but they aren’t all active. I put out a post to see how many would be interested in the BOM and it was about 40. As we all know life happens so that could change.

Tulip Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Green: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn they’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (1) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Once they’ve been sewn together then they’re paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Once it’s sewn together it’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Pink 2 3/8″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired on the top & the bottom of the Pink/White Square in a Square. They’ll partially create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
