Tulip Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
- Green: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn they’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (1) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. Once they’ve been sewn together then they’re paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Once it’s sewn together it’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Pink 2 3/8″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn they’re paired with the White 2″ squares which will create FOUR (1) Four-Patches. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired on the left-hand & the right-hand sides of the Pink/White Square in a Square. They’ll partially create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired on the top & the bottom of the Pink/White Square in a Square. They’ll partially create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Tulip Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired on the left-hand & the right-hand sides of the Lilac/White Square in a Square. They’ll partially create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired on the top & the bottom of the Lilac/White Square in a Square. They’ll partially create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
