On Cloud Nine: Nine-Patch Quilt Block

Nine-Patch Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Nine-Patch Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired with the Green/White Flying Geese. They are then paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 4″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired with the Green 1 5/8″ x 4″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Blue Cheese Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dark Teal: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with tee Lt. Teal 3 1/2″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Dk. Teal 4 3/4″ square in the center of this quilt block. When all sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. When THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with ONE (1) of the Aqua/White Half-Square Triangles they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. When ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles are sewn together, with THREE (3) of the Teal/White Half-Square Triangles, they’ll create ONE (1) Four-Patch. There are FOUR (4) Four-Patches in each corner of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
