Star Power: Turnabout Star Quilt Block & Turnabout Star Variation Quilt Block

Turnabout Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Turnabout Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles which will produce SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ squares, which will produce SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 1 7/8″ x
    4 3/4″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ x 4 1/2 rectangles which will produce EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
    5 1/4″ squares, which will produce FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 1/2 rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares, which will produce EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 1 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the 1 7/8″ x 4 1/2 rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Blue 5 1/4″ squares, which will produce FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Aqua: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares.
  • Blue: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Four-Patch squares. ONE (1) of these Four-Patch squares is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block & another ONE (1) is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Four-Patch squares. ONE (1) of these Four-Patch squares is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block & another ONE (1) is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. TWO (2)) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR(4) corners of this quilt block.)
