Quilted Kitchen: Viking Ship Quilt Block & Viking Bread Recipe

Viking Ship Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Viking Ship Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Brown 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the lower left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut SEVEN (7) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOURTEEN (14) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is paired with TWO (2) of the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut SEVEN (7) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOURTEEN (14) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) is paired with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle. (This is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the left-hand & the right-hand sides of this quilt block. They’re located above the “ship” portion.

California Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Jade: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Jade 3 3/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 4 1/2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
    2 1/2″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) additional Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.     2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired on the other TWO (2) sides by the White 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when sewn together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
