Maltese Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Lt. Green: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
2 1/2″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.) - White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) additional Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)

Maltese Star Variation Quilt Block

- Pink: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
