Judy's Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Judy’s Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lavender: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Purple 4 3/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the results of the Lavender 7 1/4″ square.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Purple 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with on ONE (1) side the results of the White 4 1/2″ square & they’re paired on ONE (1) other side by the results of the White
    3 7/8″ squares. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Green 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Steel Gray: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangle. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & will “frame” TWO (2) sides of it as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Sage Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Carson City Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square.Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
    5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the Red 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square.Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Green 5 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 3/8″ square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green
    5 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this part of this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Red 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Red 2 3/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Red 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
