Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Forest Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & will “frame” TWO (2) sides of it as needed for this quilt block.)
- Steel Gray: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangle. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & will “frame” TWO (2) sides of it as needed for this quilt block.)
- Sage Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Sage Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Sage Green 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Sage Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Braced Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Braced Star Variation Quilt Block

- Emerald Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square & provide a “frame” around TWO (2) sides of it as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square. which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4 ” squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
