Judy’s Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lavender: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Purple 4 3/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the results of the Lavender 7 1/4″ square.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Purple 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Judy’s Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Judy’s Star Variation Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Dk. Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with on ONE (1) side the results of the White 4 1/2″ square & they’re paired on ONE (1) other side by the results of the White
3 7/8″ squares. All are needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 7 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Green 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
