Magic Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Magic Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Peach: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Apricot 4 3/4″ squares which will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Apricot: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Peach 4 3/4″ squares which will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Orange 3 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners.)
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These squares are paired with the 2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Orange 3 7/8″ squares. They are also paired with either the Peach 4 3/4″ squares or the Apricot 4 3/4″ squares.)

Box Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Violet 2 3/4″ squares which will create the FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles at the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 4 3/8″ square. Once they are sewn together with the results of the Violet 2 3/4″ squares they will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These should be self explanatory. If not they are aired with the Violet 2″ x 4″ rectangles.)
  • Violet: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Once they are all sewn together they will create the Pinwheel in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Violet: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 4 3/8″ square. Once they are sewn together with the results of the Purple 2 3/4″ squares they will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Violet: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These should be self explanatory. If not they are paired with the Purple 2″ x 4″ rectangles.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired on the right & left sides of the White 5″ squares.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These are the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired on the left & right sides of the White 5″ squares.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These are the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Violet 2 3/4″ squares. They are also flanked by the results of the Purple 2 3/4″ squares. When all sewn together they will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are paired with all of the 2″ x 5″ rectangles. They are also paired with all of the 2″ x 6″ rectangles.)

  • Dk. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the White 5″ square.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/4″ squares which will create the FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Only ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles is needed for this quilt block. They will be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides with the White 5″ squares. They are also paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Turquoise 2 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. Once they are all sewn together they will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 4 3/8″ square. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Violet: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these triangles are paired with the results of the Yellow 4 3/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Purple 4 3/8″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles on the top & bottom of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) of these triangles are paired with the results of the Purple 4 3/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Yellow 4 3/8″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) more Square in a Squares on the left & right sides of this quilt block.)
  • Violet: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Violet: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Purple/White Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (TWO (2) of these triangles are paired with TWO (2) of the results of the Yellow 4 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It is the center of this quilt block.   • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Pink 3 1/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese.)
