A Special Halloween On Cloud Nine: Spider Legs Quilt Block

Spider Legs Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Spider Legs Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Black 3 3/4″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Black 4 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Black: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Orange 6 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese.)
  • Black: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 10 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Orange/Black Flying Geese.)

Precision Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They will also be in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, It is also the center of this quilt block.
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It is paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares. (These triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the results of the Gray 6 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares. Once they are sewn together with the Gray 3 7/8″ square they will create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Dk. Green 4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once it is sewn together it will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Green 6 3/8″ square which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. Once they are sewn together they will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Green 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. Once they are sewn together they will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ x 5″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Dk. Green/White Flying Geese.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Green 4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once it is sewn together it will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Dk. Green 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Burnt Orange: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares.Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange 4 3/4″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create TWO (2) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner per square.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank THREE (3) sides if the Orange 3 7/8″ squares. Once they’re sewn together with the results of the Orange 3 3/4″ squares they’ll create TWO (2) Square in a Squares.
