Friday Funday! The Craftsidents Happen Quilt Guild Sewed my “Midnight Stargazer” BOM Quilt Together!

My Facebook group was actually started from another page. There was a Lorraine fabric page which was selling the remaining stock of boundless fabric from Bluprint/Craftsy. While following that page I found there were many women and a few men who were feeling isolated due to Covid. I started my Facebook group as a way to try to build a community so they could once again belong to something and not feel lonely. We have about 300 members but they aren’t all active. I put out a post to see how many would be interested in the BOM and it was about 40. As we all know life happens so that could change.

The Baytown Area Quilt Guild started in 1956 with 15 members. We now have about 77 members which is down from about 90 before Covid. Many have not returned yet. We meet monthly. We have a board of officers, hold our business meeting, then have a speaker who usually does a trunk show of their work.

We set a month aside for community service where we generally sew blankets and bibs for our local pregnancy resource center. We also bring other baby items to donate. Other months we collect items for the homeless shelter, the police dept., Love Network, or food bank. We try to be very community focused. We have an auction once a year as our fund raiser—a live auction of donated quilts from our members, and a silent auction. We also make a quilt each year and sell raffle tickets. All in all it’s a pretty busy group!

The Holmes Valley Quilters was founded by Kathy Anderson and Angie Bush. We met for the first time January 17, 2008, where 26 people gathered in the home of Kathy Anderson. We have members from Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Walton and Bay counties in Florida.

For the past several years, we have been making and donating quilts and totes to our local Guardian ad Litem program. Most of the fabric and materials needed for these projects are either donated by members themselves or by local sewing groups and/or businesses. Then our members give their personal time and love, to construct beautiful quilts and totes to be donated to local children in need. Our charity this year, will be making quilts and totes for Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. These quilts will be kept in officer’s vehicles and given to victim’s of trauma (i.e. car accidents, house fires, domestic violence…etc.).
