The Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 8, 2018 by TK HarrisonDecember 25, 2018

“The Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay,” Sorrento, British Columbia, Canada is not a formal guild, but a group of very social quilters. We now have 53 members, on average 25 will attend the meetings. Many of us travel and go to warmer climates in the winter. Our group was formed in 1997 by a group of friends with a passion for quilting and who enjoyed the company of fellow quilters. Their object was to have fun, enjoying lots of chit chat, potluck lunches and laughing together while doing what they loved.

“Show & Tell is a favorite part of all our meetings. From this, ideas and techniques are shared, and members willingly offer to do demonstrations of new quilting patterns and techniques . We like to have a demo each month, and sometimes bring a presenter in to teach a class. Our projects vary, large and small. Mystery quilts, BOM’s, table runner’s and the list goes on.

“The lasting friendships formed, a feeling of belonging and the skills shared are the special focus of our group and we embrace all who have a desire to quilt and learn along with us.”

This year (and into next year), the Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay have chosen to make my original pattern from my sister site BOMquilts.com called “Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses.”

Want More Free Quilt Block Patterns?

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 1, 2018 by TK HarrisonNovember 1, 2018

Kim Noblin, owner of Block Central, has built quite a following. She started with her free quilt blocks and then started adding her block of the month (BOM) and mystery quilts. I know I made two of one of her BOM quilts (one for me and one for a dear friend of ours) and two of her mystery quilt patterns (one for me and one for a friend of mine) . I loved them so much, I just made more! 🙂 https://blockcentral.comVery rarely do I keep the quilts I make, but I kept two of them from Kim’s patterns. The first one I kept was her 2005 BOM “Everything’s Coming up Roses” quilt. My husband sleeps under it every single night and it gives him some quilty hugs all the night through!

The second quilt I made that was designed by Kim was her “Starfall” mystery quilt. This quilt has a much more sentimental value to me. I purchased a line of Christmas fabric that had roses in it, but you would never know it was Christmas fabric unless you looked really, really closely at it. It’s the roses portion that is the sentimental value.

While living in my third foster home, my foster parents had a natural child who was a year younger than I was. She was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s disease and passed away less than a year later. On the programs, that were handed out at her funeral service, my foster parents had put a statement, “God gave us flowers so that we could have roses in December.” Which explains why my fabric choice has such sentimental quilt.

Where was I? OH yes! Block Central! 🙂 Kim started building her site by adding free quilt blocks to it. Here’s a small sample of what she has on her website:

“Windowsill Wonders” a Free 2018 BOM Quilt Pattern

Quilt Therapy Posted on October 25, 2018 by TK HarrisonOctober 23, 2018

Have you been following along with my “Windowsill Wonders” free 2018 BOM quilt on my sister-site BOMquilts.com?

It’s never too late to start a new quilt, now is it?!! This quilt features the fabric line “Windowsill Garden” designed by Darlene Zimmerman from Robert Kaufman Fabrics. It’s a 1930’s retro colorway that is oh so pastel. I love it, I really, really do! But any pastel fabrics will work! Or retro fabrics! Or make it scrappy, that works, too!

Every once in a while I design a quilt that I want to keep to get a quilty hug from for years to come, and this one fits the bill. I don’t keep very many of the quilts that I make, preferring to give them to others so as to spread the love. I only have four quilts that I’ve made over the years, that I’ve kept and use. Because what good is a quilt if you don’t use it? I don’t want the eye candy, I don’t need it either. Not to mention that I am a pastel person. It’s the best coloring for me to wear and to wrap around me.

If nothing else, download my free pattern and save it for future use. It sews together fairly quickly and is a fun quilt top to make because it’s not your average ‘same blocks used over and over again’ quilt pattern.
