Take a look at the previous post about the Kindred Spirits Quilt Guild!
They have now finished their “Mistletoe in the Corner” BOM Quilts & all who made them enjoyed the experience! I have really loved getting their emails & watching their progress as they sew together my block of the month quilt!

The last blog post shows that they had completed Blocks #2 & #3. I’ll pick up where they left off:

The Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay are Sewing it up Again!

Quilt Therapy Posted on December 27, 2018 by TK HarrisonDecember 25, 2018

Remember the Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay (GTQ of Blind Bay)? They’re sewing my 2006 BOM “Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses“ quilt from my sister site, BOMquilts.com!

Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses 2006 BOM Quilt from BOMQuilts.com. An original sampler design of 16-patch squares made with a touch of cinnamon with chocolate, figs & roses – sure to be a delectable delight!

They are now three months into making their quilt blocks and, my oh my, I think they’re having way too much fun! Is that a thing? Having too much fun? Naw, not for quilters, anyway! 🙂

Here are some photos of the quilt blocks that Mandy S. sent to me of her own quilt blocks. She is making them from a batik layer cake that she had in her stash:

I wonder, though, whatever are the GTQ of Blind Bay going to do for space when they continue adding quilt blocks to that stage? I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the photo (and quilts) evolve!

The Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 8, 2018 by TK HarrisonDecember 25, 2018

“The Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay,” Sorrento, British Columbia, Canada is not a formal guild, but a group of very social quilters. We now have 53 members, on average 25 will attend the meetings. Many of us travel and go to warmer climates in the winter. Our group was formed in 1997 by a group of friends with a passion for quilting and who enjoyed the company of fellow quilters. Their object was to have fun, enjoying lots of chit chat, potluck lunches and laughing together while doing what they loved.

“Show & Tell is a favorite part of all our meetings. From this, ideas and techniques are shared, and members willingly offer to do demonstrations of new quilting patterns and techniques . We like to have a demo each month, and sometimes bring a presenter in to teach a class. Our projects vary, large and small. Mystery quilts, BOM’s, table runner’s and the list goes on.

“The lasting friendships formed, a feeling of belonging and the skills shared are the special focus of our group and we embrace all who have a desire to quilt and learn along with us.”

This year (and into next year), the Good Time Quilters of Blind Bay have chosen to make my original pattern from my sister site BOMquilts.com called “Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses.”

A Timeless Quilt Pattern: Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses

Quilt Therapy Posted on September 13, 2018 by TK HarrisonMarch 12, 2020

Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses Block of the Month Quilt designed by TK Harrison from BOMquilts.comCinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses Block of the Month Quilt designed by TK Harrison from BOMquilts.com

This was the first block of the month (BOM) quilt pattern that I ever designed, and it’s what launched my sister-site, BOMquilts.com. Back when I designed it in 2006, I did it with a different sponsor than the one who’s sponsored my quilts for the past 12 years. And when I released the pattern, she sold out of the kits that she had cut for them. So she cut more kits, and sold out of them. Then she ordered more bolts, made more kits, and once again – she sold out of those kits as fast as she could cut them. She called the secretary of her salesman and literally made her go to their warehouse – all the while keeping her on the phone – in search of more bolts of the fabrics that may have been left on the shelf, got shelved wrong, anything anywhere? Nada. None. Zip.

But the story of my Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses quilt design doesn’t end there. I can’t tell you how many times people have sent me their thanks for this quilt design. I even stopped into a quilt shop in a very large city about an hour away from where live and introduced myself to the owners. When one of the sales ladies heard my name, she came over and asked me if I was the one who designed that quilt. When I said I was, she hurried off to the break room and came back with the quilt that she had made using my pattern!

Through the years, I’ve had various quilt groups & guilds ask for my permission to make my quilt. One of the two things I always say is that in order to use my patterns, you must provide me with a photograph of your progress, or your blocks, or your finished quilt tops or your finished quilts. I have never received any photos from quilt group or guild that I granted permission to use my pattern.

That is until 2018!

The “Maidstone Quilting Squares” quilt group from Maidstone, Saskatchewan, Canada are making my Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses quilt as a mystery quilt instead of a block of the month quilt.

They meet every two weeks in a local church hall. In the winter, they make stone soup for lunch, and everyone brings one item for the soup pot. In the summer months, they do the same with salad. It makes for a delicious and easy lunch and it’s different every time. And no bag lunch this way!

Here is the progress that they’ve made thus far, three months into their mystery quilt program:

Month One

Month Two

Month Three

Stay tuned for the continuing saga of the “Maidstone Quilting Squares” and my Cinnamon-teen Chocolate Figs & Roses quilt!
