Spain's Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Spain’s Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow
    3 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Yellow 7 1/4″ squares. When all are sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew it together.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Red
    3 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Yellow 7 1/4″ squares. When all are sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew it together.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Red 4 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew it together.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Red
    3 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Yellow 7 1/4″ squares. When all are sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew it together.)

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These rectangles are paired with the White

They’re also flanked one ONE (1) other side by the results of the Silver 4 1/4″ square + the Silver 2 5/8″ squares. All sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Evening’s Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll help create a “frame” around the Windmill in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Navy Blue
    1 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ square. In addition they’re paired with the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll help create a “frame” around the Windmill in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lilac: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lilac: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Navy Blue
    1 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ square. In addition they’re paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares & they’re paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White
    2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Navy Blue 4 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. All together they’ll create the Windmill at the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the Navy Blue 2 1/2″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Lilac 2 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. All together they’ll create the Windmill at the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 2 1/2″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Navy Blue 4 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the Navy Blue
