Quilted Kitchen: Vermont Quilt Block & Vermont Doughnut Recipe

Vermont Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Vermont Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Tan: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE (1) 2 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are first paired with the results of the Blue 2 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Then they’re flanked by the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Tan 2 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Green 2 1/2″ squares. Once they’re sewn together they’ll be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are first paired with the results of the Green 2 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Then they’re flanked by the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Blue/Tan Quarter-Square Triangle in the center of this quilt block. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1)8 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired on ONE (1) side by the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles. Greek Cross Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 5 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Yellow 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Blue 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
