Countdown to Christmas 12/8/2020: Peaceful Evening Quilt Block

Peaceful Evening Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by either the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, or the results of the Gray 5 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Gray 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Gray 5 1/4″ square which which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this portion of this quilt block. But save the other TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Using the remaining TWO (2) Triangles from the 7 1/4″ square above. (These are paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ triangles which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the Brown 7 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Brown 7 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the White
    4 1/4″ squares & they’ll help create a “frame” around the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 9″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the White
    4 1/4″ squares & they’ll help create a “frame” around the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create a Square in a Square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block & they’ll be flanked by the results of the Blue 3 7/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Blue 3 1/2″ square which will create a Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Salmon 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are the center’s of this quilt block.)
