Trails Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Trails Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut THREE (3) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Green 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. One of these Half-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block. Only THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles are needed for this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut THREE (3) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Green 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)

Constellation Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will “frame” the left & right sides of the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These will “frame” the top & bottom sides of the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These squares are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles & will create a Four-Patch in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These squares are paired with both ends of the Blue 2″ x
    6 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Dk. Blue 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

Once the Quarter-Square Triangle’s sewn together then it’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)

(These triangles are paired with the results of the Purple 2 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle.     3 1/4″ squares.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ rectangle which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners.)
