Quilted Kitchen: Sunflower Quilt Block & Sunflower Seed Cookies

Sunflower Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!Sunflower Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Gold 2 1/2″ squares. Which will help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Gold 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle & together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Brown 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Light Blue 4 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles. (These will flank the Brown 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & the Gold 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle. Which will create the horizontal center of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Gold 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut FIVE (5) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create the first FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut TEN (10) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua 2 1/2″ squares, which will create the second FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua 2 1/2″ squares, which will create the first FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Aqua 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
    2 1/2″ squares, which will create the first FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Navy Blue 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Navy Blue 3 1/4″ squares, which will create the second FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Teal 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Navy Blue 5 1/4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

  • Raspberry: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Raspberry: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
