Countdown to Christmas 12/4/2019: Christmas Basket Quilt Block

Christmas Basket Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12â€³ finished block (scant 1/4â€³ seam allowance):

Brown: Cut SIX (6) 1 3/4″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the Pink 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
Pink: Cut SIX (6) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Brown 1 3/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
Bright Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the Pink 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be used at the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
Bright Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Bright Pink 3 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. You only need SEVEN (7) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
White: Cut ONE (1) 8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will be the entire right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

In order to make the “basket handle” you’ll need to sew a straight-stitch or hand embroider a line, where you see it on the diagram above.

Christmas Star #2 Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12â€³ finished block (scant 1/4â€³ seam allowance):

Light Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Dark Gray 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Light Gray
2 7/8″ squares, which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
Dark Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
Dark Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The other FOUR (4) will be flanked, on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Blue
2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Dark Gray 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides, the Dark Gray 1 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.

Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ ” squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the Dark Green 2″ squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)

Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked on THREE (3) sides, by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
Blue: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with each other, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

“Christmas Cheer” is the name of the quilt pattern, that you can earn, if you complete the Quilt Dash game for November!

There’s two beautiful quilt blocks that make up the “Christmas Cheer” quilt!

Enjoy some “Christmas Cheer” with holiday red and white peppermint! This quilt is made with two â€œsweetâ€ blocks. One block is pieced with an on-point pinwheel using red and white stripe and the other block has an appliquÃ© peppermint candy cane. The pattern is easy to adjust to make a table runner, table topper, wall hanging, lap quilt or a full size bed quilt.

Great for the holidays for a no calorie treat! 🙂
