Countdown to Christmas 12/23/2019: Cookies & Milk Quilt Block

Cookies & Milk Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cookies & Milk Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of the Tan 2 7/8″ squares & the Light Gray 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Light Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White
    1 7/8″ squares.)
  • Light Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Tan
    2 7/8″ squares. Once sewn together they are paired with the results of the Light Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Tan: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Gray 2 1/2″ squares. Once sewn together they are paired with the results of the Light Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Tan: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Light Blue 3 3/8″ square which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Tan 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)

Christmas Pine Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangle. (This will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the White 3 3/8″ x 4″ rectangles. It’s also the “trunk” of the Christmas Pine tree.)
  • Light Green: Cut SIX (6) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be paired with the Dark Green 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Dark Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be paired with the Light Green 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Dark Green: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need FIVE (5) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will flank the Light Green 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Dark Green: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the Brown 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangle. And on the other TWO (2) sides the results of the White 5 1.2″ squares.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will be flanked by the White 3 3/8″ x 4″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will flank the Brown 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangle. It will also be the bottom right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Magenta: Cut TEN (10) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Square in a Square’s.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the center of the top & bottom of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY (20) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Magenta 3 3/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Square in a Square’s.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangles. (These will be the left-hand & right-hand sides of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Dark Green 3 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ rectangle.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ rectangle. (This will be flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ square on TWO (2) sides. It’s also the “trunk” of the Patch Blossom tree.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will flank the Dark Green 3 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ rectangle.)
  • Dark Green: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the White 2″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ x 4 3/8″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ x 4 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the White 2″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles. And they will flank the results of the White 4 3/4″ square on the other side.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Dark Green 3 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ rectangle.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles.)
