Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the Blue 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Crystal Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create the second Square in a Square, for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create the first Square in a Square, for the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) additional Square in a Square’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Yellow 2 1/2″ square, which will create the first Square in a Square, for the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the White 4″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square.Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 4 3/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • Navy Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. (FOUR (4) of these are paired with the results of the White
    5 1/4″ squares & the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles for this quilt block. The other TWO (2) are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares & the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles for this quilt block. The other TWO (2) are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Light Blue 4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will also be a Square in a Square & the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Light Blue 4″ squares & the results of the White 4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Gray 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Light Blue 4″ squares & the results of the Gray 4″ squares. Which will create a Square in a Square & it’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
