Three Colors Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Three Colors Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Aqua 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Blue Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Aqua Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 3″ squares.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua 3″ squares.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Aqua 3 3/4″ squares. They’re flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Blue 3 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

(This is paired with the Pink 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Purple Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Purple 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Pink Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 3″ squares.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 3″ squares.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut EIGHT (8) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. Which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Gray 4 3/8″ squares. Which will create SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese.)
