Three Colors Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Aqua 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Blue Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Aqua Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 3″ squares.)
- Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Aqua 3″ squares.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Aqua 3 3/4″ squares. They’re flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Blue 3 3/4″ squares. Once they’re all sewn together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Three Colors Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Purple 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Once sewn together with the Yellow/Pink Half-Square Triangles they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 3″ squares.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 3″ squares.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
