On Cloud Nine: Meet me in the Middle Quilt Block

Meet me in the Middle Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Meet me in the Middle Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Salmon 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

Birds in the Air Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White 8 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 8 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 4 7/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square triangles for this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut ONE (1) 8 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 4 7/8″ square.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the lower left-hand & upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Teal 4 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the lower left-hand & upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow
    1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Yellow 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Pumpkin 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the Orange 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Orange 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pumpkin: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Lt. Yellow 1 7/8″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pumpkin: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the Orange 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Lt. Yellow 1 7/8″ squares.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Lt. Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the Orange 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Lt. Yellow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
