Fat Quarter Deals

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 19, 2014 by TK HarrisonNovember 19, 2014

I try to keep my stash well rounded with scraps, pre-cut fabrics, fabric yardage, etc.  Fat quarters are the one thing that I use most often…and the one thing I deplete in a hurry (I either use all of them or I use part of them so that they go to the scrap baskets).  I’ve also noticed I have a lot of a certain color that is not my favorite…and not a whole lot of another color that is one of my faves.  About the time I have a project ready to go, I begin searching through all of my fabric bins…only to come up short with some colors I need.

I have been trying to keep a good count, and well rounded stock, of my fat quarters.  The best way that I’ve found is to have a list of fat quarter colors readily available, and every three months I try to replenish those fat quarter colors so I am rarely running out of the colors I need.

Fat quarters.  Fat Quarters.  FAT QUARTERS!!! 🙂

What about you?  Do you need to add some fat quarters to your stash?  Or need some fat quarters for a current project?  If so, check out Fat Quarter Deals!  Quality 100% cotton quilt fabric at awesome prices!

Fabric Wine Coasters

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 12, 2014 by TK HarrisonNovember 10, 2014

Before my foster mother came to visit us, she had asked me to have sewing/quilting things for her to do.  She is not one who likes to sit idle, even if it’s just reading for a bit.  I had a pretty good list of projects ready for her and I could tell by the smile that reached her eyes that she was anxious to get to work!  One of my projects was making wine glass coasters.  I know they’re all the rage right now but is a great gift to keep around and gift them to wine drinking friends.  Although it seems that the most common wine glass coasters are the square ones, we were looking for something a bit different.

Then we came upon an image of round wine glass coasters and both of us loved the looks of them!  We found this pattern and tutorial from Pokey’s Ponderings.  Exactly what we were looking for and my foster mother had the best of time sorting through my fabric scrap bins to make a few dozen coasters.  I also liked the idea of using the back sides of them for coffee cup or drinking glasses coasters.

She enjoyed it so much, she spent two days making them!

She kept all of the colors of coasters except the red, white and blue ones – and I cabbaged onto them the minute I saw them.  As I am typing this, she is in my sewing room, making me one more for my collection, since I ended up with just 11 coasters instead of 12.

She didn’t quite get to everything on my list but she did make a dent in it!  Hopefully, she will go home with memories of having a fun time with our family as well as my sewing room!

The Color of Fall

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 5, 2014 by TK HarrisonOctober 14, 2019

My (third) foster mother from Iowa is visiting us for the week and always brings us joy.  When she wintered with us last year, she had planted some lovely plants in flower pots to enjoy.  Unfortunately, we were unable to keep up with the watering schedule for all but one plant — which was frozen and mostly died — but my husband put his green thumb on it and it’s thriving on our dining room table.  That’s all that’s left of her beautiful flowers.

My daughters’ decided since we killed off all of her flowers, they needed to replace them.  This absolutely beautiful mum plant was used to decorate the coronation set design from our daughters’ school’s homecoming last week.  It is huge, with blossoms spilling out over the edge of the flower pot!  It definitely reminds me of fall colors:

As with many things, I pulled some of the colors from the plant and this is what I came up with:

FallColors

I can envision a beautiful quilt made from the fabric colors above.  Can you?
