Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also create the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corners of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also create the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Pink 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Idle Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also the be FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also create the center of this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also the be FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
