On Cloud Nine: Linoleum Quilt Block

Linoleum Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Linoleum Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of them will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 3 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of them will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the Blue 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Pink 3 3/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Green
    3 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue
    3 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’s also the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue/Green Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Green
    3 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue
    3 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’s also the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue/Green Flying Geese as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Dk. Green 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the Lt. Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. Then they’re flanked by the results of the Green 2 3/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Green 4 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple 2 7/8″ squares which, will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Teal 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. In addition they’re flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Teal 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. In addition they’re flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua Snowball Corners + the Aqua 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. They’ll also flank the Teal Snowball corners + the Teal 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. When sewn all together they’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
