Swamp Angel Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Swamp Angel Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Ash Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Moss Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.(These are paired with the Ash Green 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Moss Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2 x 6 1/2″ rectangles which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball corners will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Gray 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)

Old Maid’s Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. Together they’ll flank the Aqua 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as well as the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. When sewn together with the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles, they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. Together they’ll flank the Aqua 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & they’re also paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares.   • Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Pink 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Together they’ll flank the Pink 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the Bright Pink 4 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares & they’re also flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square. When sewn together with the Bright Pink 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle, they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the Bright Pink 2″ x 3 1/2″ squares. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares. They’re the “body” of the fish as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ squares. They’re the “nose” of the fish as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 1/2″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ square. They’re the “fins” of the fish as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the White 1 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of each of the FOUR (4) sections of this quilt block.)
