Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

- Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares. They are the “body” of the fish.)
- Teal: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles.)
- Teal: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ squares. They’re the “nose” of the fish.)
- Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the White 2 1/2″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles.)
- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Teal 2 1/2″ square. They’re the “fins” of the fish as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White
2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the White 1 1/2″ squares.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of each of the FOUR (4) sections of this quilt block.)

Hi! This is the cutest! Im pretty good at quilting, but Im struggling with the sewing order. Have you got a step by step tutorial for assembling the fish section?
Hi Karen! I’m sorry but I don’t offer tutorials. Although this quilt block shouldn’t be so difficult to sew together. Sew the “fish” together. Then sew the upper “scales” together. Sew the coordinating triangles to the “fish” & the “scales” blocks. Then sew the TWO (2) upper “scales” row to the lower “fish” row. Finally sew the two rows together!
