On Cloud Nine: Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block

Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Battle of the Alamo Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TEN (10) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 2 1/2″ squares & they’ll create TWO (2) Nine-Patch squares. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of Teal 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIX (6) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Teal 6 7/8″ squares on ONE (1) side as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut FIVE (5) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles. You only need NINE (9) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Brown 4 7/8″ squares which will create TEN (10) Half-Square Triangles. You only need NINE (9) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
