Black & White Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Black & White Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2″ squares as needed this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (2) 2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Gray 2 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Gray 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (TWO (2) of these triangles will be the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) triangles will be flanked by the results of the Gray 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

Pine Burr Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the result’s of the Blue 2 1/4″ squares and the White 2 1/4″ squares which will make Half-Square Triangles needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWENTY (20) 1 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank all of the White rectangles, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ strips. (Both ends of these will be flanked by ONE (1) of the Pink 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles. (Both ends of these will be flanked by ONE (1) of the Pink 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ square & will help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ square & the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. They’ll help to create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s “framed” by the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & by the Blue 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square & together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ squares & together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
