Texas Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut TWO 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ square & will help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ square & the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. They’ll help to create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s “framed” by the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & by the Blue 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Red
5 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Texas Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Texas Star Variation Quilt Block

- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Blue 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
