The Fourth Day After Christmas 12/29/2019: Luke’s Star Quilt Block

Luke’s Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Rust 3 1/2″ square on ONE (1) side. And on other side the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut FOUR 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on ONE (1) side the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles & the Yellow 2″ squares on another side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Yellow 2″ squares & they will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corner’s for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the other Yellow 4 1/4″ square on ONE (1) side & the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ on TWO (2) other sides, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corner’s for this quilt block. They will be also be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ square & the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares.  On the remaining side, they will be flanked by the Rust 2 3/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the White 3 1/2″ squares & will be a portion of the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Light Blue 2″ squares & will be a portion of the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles & will be a portion of the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. They will also be a portion of the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. (This is paired with TWO (2) of the Purple
    2 5/8″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. It will also be a portion of the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ squares & the remaining TWO (2) are paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. Which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners & will be a portion of the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the Purple 2 5/8″ squares & the remaining triangles will flank the Purple 2 5/8″ x 6 7/8″ rectangle. This will also be a portion of the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 4 3/4″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Square in a Squares.)
  • Mint Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the White
    3 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Mint Green
    3 7/8″ squares. Which will create TWO (2) Square in a Squares.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Mint Green 7 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 4 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 1 7/8″ x
    6 1/8″ rectangles & the White 1 7/8″ x 9″ rectangles. Which will create a “frame” around the Square in a Square for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square which will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 6 1/8″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square & will “frame” the Square in a Square for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 9″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the Blue 5 1/4″ square & will “frame” the Square in a Square for this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the left & right of the Yellow
    3 1/2″ square, which will partially “frame” the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the top & bottom of the Yellow
    3 1/2″ square, which will partially “frame” the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
