The Sixth Day After Christmas 12/31/2019: Paul’s Star Quilt Block

Paul’s Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Sage Green: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the Chartreuse Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Sage Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Chartreuse Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Chartreuse Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank the Chartreuse Green 1 7/8″ x
    3 3/8″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corner’s, as needed for this quilt block.
  • Chartreuse Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) end by the results of the Chartreuse Green 1 7/8″ squares & on the opposite end by the Sage Green 1 7/8″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the results of the Chartreuse Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & on the other side by the results of the Sage Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the results of the Sage Green 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Snowball Corner. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corner’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares & on the other TWO (2) sides by the White 2 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) Green 3 5/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Light Blue 3 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 2 1/4″ squares on TWO (2) sides & the Light Blue 3 3/8″ squares on another side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/4″ squares. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the Light Blue 2 1/4″ squares & on another side by the Light Blue 3 3/8″ squares. They will also be flanked on the last TWO (2) remaining sides, by the results of the Green 2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Green 3 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Rust 3 1/2″ square on ONE (1) side. And on other side the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut FOUR 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on ONE (1) side the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles & the Yellow 2″ squares on another side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Yellow 2″ squares & they will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares on ONE (1) side & the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corner’s for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Rust 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the other Yellow 4 1/4″ square on ONE (1) side & the White 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ on TWO (2) other sides, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corner’s for this quilt block. They will be also be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ square & the results of the Yellow 2 3/8″ squares.  On the remaining side, they will be flanked by the Rust 2 3/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.
